DROP launches with “Beyond White” evening

DROP Beyond White

“DROP – Digital Records on Paper” initial kick-off event at the Munich offices of Fedrigoni revolved around the “Beyond White” topic. After a presentation on the color white in art, culture and digital printing, each invited guest received a tailor-made look book designed by desres and nina heydorn, produced by dygy. Afterwards, a fantastic dinner was served. The guests enjoyed themselves over cuba libres, mojitos and alcohol-free cocktails. Even the tunes were digital: Frank Dommert [a-musik, Köln] presented a mix of the best electronic music of the past four decades. The last guests left the showroom in Unterhaching at around 11:30 pm. What a beautiful, informative and entertaining evening!

DROP – A format for agencies

DROP-BY the event

dygy is currently planning to host a event series in 2011 called “DROP.” D-R-O-P stands for “Digital Records on Paper” and will be presented in collaboration with the Italian fine paper manufacturer Fedrigioni, the design studios desres and nina heydorn, and with Hewlett Packard Germany. The concept developed by the nws dialogue group features an award ceremony as well as other measures supporting the roadshow. The entire design concept for “DROP” was developed by the design studios desres and nina heydorn Frankfurt in close collaboration with dygy.

The event will present the new HP indigo digital press ink “ElectroInk White”, of course printed on Fedrigoni fine paper. WhiteInk finally allows what has not been possible to date: custom white print on colored paper.

Moreover, dygy will present further possibilities of Indigo digital printing presses. Fedrigioni will present a sample collection “CENTURY SOHO for Indigo technology”: a tailor-made fine paper product line developed especially for the Indigo press and certified by HP. The portfolio features one of the most extensive product lines of digital print on the German market, including more that 20 different (cast-/coated, embossed, feltmarked, transparent, iridescent and colored paper and cardboards) as well as an assortment of self-adhesive papers. The workshops will be held at the Fedrigoni showrooms in Munich (July), Berlin (August), Düsseldorf (September), and Viena (October).

The theme of the 2011 events will be “Beyond White – A quest beyond the color white”

16 different novum cover versions are the great result of the dygy team’s hard work, which included round-the-clock efforts for this result. An elaborate and challenging project was successfully completed: The covers of an entire novum edition were individualized with WhiteInk.

A huge thank you to our employees and cooperation partners for making this project possible: novum, Fedrigoni, HP

Dygy awarded bronze at GWA Production Award 2011

The GWA Production Award is the only competition that fully recognizes the complexity of the modern media production process. It also highlights the significance of print for brand, corporate, and product communications.

Michael Stickel, Managing Director of Wunderman Services and GWA head juror 2011 on the finalists in the competition: “Creativity and the spirit of innovation, an eye for the details, and diligent execution – the GWA Production Award takes into account all of the indispensible aspects for successful modern communication. The award demonstrates that the modern media production process is more than a timely delivery of brochures or mailings. Ideally, production is a catalyst that facilitates the comprehension of the message and makes it more fun and engaging for the recipient, regardless of the channel. The jury’s decision in 2011 emphasizes the position of the GWA Production Award in the Horizont Kreativranking.”

Finalists at the GWA PRODUCTION AWARD 2011

Last week the independent jury announced the shortlist of this year’s submissions.

We are happy to say that our submission of the cover print “Golden Goose” for Paperazzo made it among the 22 finalists of the GWA Production Awards 2011!

Cover: Personalised address of the subscriber and an imprint of a unique lottery number.Inside front cover: personalised advertisement of HP. Outside back cover: personalised advertisement of dygy, address (incl. postal code) in purple colour as well as the issue’s number for reprint.

The goose ain’t a duck: dygy designed and printed the cover of the Paperazzo christmas issue.
The cover was supposed to do without the typical Christmas symbols: „ We wanted to find an object which is different but still in association with the festive time. Furthermore we wanted to present the great ways of digital print with WhiteInk.“

That’s how the white goose made its way onto the golden cover. Her shape is formed by some lyrics taken from „The golden goose“ by the Grimm brothers. The Paperazzo cover has been personalised for about 6 times in total.

The team – consisting of employees of the Keppler Media Group, HP Germany and dygy – has had a lot of fun when it was said at the beginning of the printing process: „The goose is a duck“.

The substrate was sponsored by Fedrigoni Germany: Sirio Pearl, 300g/qm, Aurum

White Ink on Zanders T2000 + primer

Dark it was but the moon shone brightly…

Print: 4c and ElectroInk White, Paper: plike, papyrus

Some possibilities of WhiteInk can’t be simulated on screen. Practical tests and imagination are needed. This way you can manage for example to print with additional white colour channels within the standard. With the help of the individual gradation it’s possible to control the colour application. We were impressed by how many different effects you can create with just one image – all on one sheet. Finished and instantly dry.

Of course dygy will continue its journey throughout the land of white painters and is excited about what surprises might lie ahead. Test, test, test.
